The Monastic Archaeology Field School are excited to be back for another season of excavations and surveys at Lindores Abbey in Fife.

Between the 8 June and 4 July 2025 the team will be excavating inside the abbey with students from Global St Andrews Summer School. We are addressing our big research question relating to the landscape around Lindores and the use of water, the environmental impact of water, water usage, and its manipulation at the monastic site and its surrounding area over time.

In 2025, we’ll be opening trenches at various places in the inner precinct looking for the path of the main drain and water courses throughout the abbey: the refectory, the centre of the cloister, reredorter, the church, and at the abbey’s water gate outlooking the Tay River.
